If dogs could talk, this is what we think they would say ....
PAPA: That chain was quite heavy! And I'm just a little guy! I was never starving but I really really wanted my people to come say hello sometimes. They went in and out of the trailer but they left me alone all the time. They didn't say why. I don't know what I did wrong. And then one day they were gone and then these other people came by sometimes to feed me and play with me. They didn't stay long though and I always whined when they left. I didn't like being alone out there. INTERVIEWER: I'm so sorry that happened to you. And then you were rescued and your life changed, right? PAPA: Someone came and removed my chains, put me in this truck then I was in this building with lots and lots of dogs. So much barking, that was scary! And then another car ride then I was with these new people who were nice to me and they didn't put me on a chain again. That was nice. INTERVIEWER: What's life in a foster home like? PAPA: It so much better than where I used to live!!! I live inside but I don't get to play with the other dogs in the house. I don't like big boy dogs, never have, and they have TWO of them! And I don't like barky dogs in general and they have this noisy girl - she's nuts and I don't like her. She probably doesn't like me either but foster mom and dad keep us all separate. We get to look at each other when we're all crated. That's OK. I get to run the yard all by myself! I love running! And chasing balls! Did you see my videos? I have lots! Foster mom likes to take videos of me she said. Oh, I like watching TV with foster mom. I'm allowed on the couch when the other dogs are crated. She says I'm her Netflix buddy - I think it's a good thing because she lets me lay on her and we share a blanket.
INTERVIEWER: You look like you're having so much fun in those videos. You're a fast runner too! PAPA: Yes! They say I don't have very good "recall", whatever that means, but I'm trying to remember that it means good things when I come after they call me. I do everything else they tell me though. They say I'm a "good boy" - I know what THAT means! I went to doggie school! Boy, that was fun! We would go in the car and then we were in this room and there was this guy we all had to listen to and best of all, so many treats!! I learned so much stuff! I knew stuff before from my old family but I added more. I learned I like to jump over things! Foster mom says I'm like a little bunny. They told me I'm very smart. I think I know what that means.
INTERVIEWER: Why do you think you've not been adopted yet? PAPA: Does adopted mean going to a new home? Ok, I think it's because I'm not so good with other dogs. I like puppies though! I met these fluffy puppies in class and I liked them but we weren't allowed to play because it was "school". Anyway, I love people so that's not the reason. I don't mind cats. My foster mom has this orange thing - he's OK but he likes to steal my food when I'm not looking. I love car rides but please don't put me in the front seat. It freaks me out facing front like that. Foster dad has a truck - I think I like trucks a lot! INTERVIEWER: What about children? PAPA: Children? I can't have any. INTERVIEWER: Not YOUR children. I know you're neutered so you can't make puppies. Do you like HUMAN children? PAPA: I'm pretty sure I like human children. I haven't met many of them but sometimes I get too excited and I jump up and might be scary for human children, right? There's no children in my foster home, just dogs and cats. INTERVIEWER: Do you have any special needs? What do you eat? Are you afraid of anything? PAPA: Does "special needs" mean medicines and stuff? No, I don't need any of that except the thing they give me so I don't get worms in my heart. Doesn't worms in your HEART sound horrible??? I don't have any worms in my heart. What do I eat? I eat most things. My foster mom tries to give me weird things sometimes. I really don't like green beans. I like carrots sometimes and I love apples! I just discovered strawberries and I love them too! The little blue ones, blueberries? I don't like those. Foster mom likes to take video of me trying new things but I didn't bring them today. What am I afraid of? I don't like lawnmowers! Those are scary monster things! I can't be around them or I would bite their tires off. I also don't like leaf blowers - those things are super loud! Do you have one of those? And then foster mom got this white round thing that travels around the house every day. It sounds like a vacuum but different. We all have to be crated when that thing is working. I'm not afraid of it though. I just don't like it. INTERVIEWER: You sound like a fairly normal dog. They tell me you like to go out to bars and such, is that true? PAPA: They take me to bars sometimes but not on the weekends. Foster mom thinks that's asking too much of me because if there are too many dogs around, I might misbehave. But seriously, if a dog barks at me I try not to, but I bark back. I don't like dogs staring at me either and foster mom has to tell people not to come say hello with their dog. I'm fine with them if they're OVER THERE. I go to a cigar lounge with my foster dad - that's our hangout. I get to meet so many nice people and they give me treats and let me sit with them, or on them sometimes. Someone told me I had changed his mind about pitbulls. Foster dad says I'm a pretty good "breed ambassador" whatever that means. INTERVIEWER: Thank you for talking to me today and sharing all these videos and pictures. Good luck with getting adopted - I think it won't be long now. PAPA: Can you show people more pictures of me? I like to get dressed up in hats and coats and stuff and I want people to see! Oh, and don't tell people about my underbite, OK? INTERVIEWER: Of course, I'll share your pictures. And I'll tell everyone about you because you're something special. And I won't tell anyone about your underbite. You can hardly see it in pictures anyway.
